Science Enrichment
At our school, we believe that science should extend beyond the classroom. Our enrichment programme is designed to inspire curiosity, develop scientific literacy and provide pupils with opportunities to experience science in real-world contexts. Through practical experiences, educational visits and extracurricular activities, pupils develop a deeper understanding of science and the many opportunities it offers for future study and careers.
Our annual science enrichment programme includes:
Weekly Science Club
Our Science Club provides pupils with the opportunity to explore science beyond the curriculum through practical investigations, STEM challenges and exciting experiments. The club encourages curiosity, creativity and problem-solving whilst fostering a love of science.
British Science Week
Pupils participate in a range of activities linked to British Science Week, engaging with current scientific developments and national STEM initiatives. These activities promote scientific thinking and encourage pupils to explore the impact of science on society.
Chick Hatching Programme
The chick hatching programme provides pupils with a unique opportunity to observe life cycles first-hand. This experience supports learning about growth, development and animal care whilst encouraging curiosity about biological processes.
Science and Industry Museum Visit
The Science and Industry Museum visit helps pupils understand how scientific discovery and technological innovation have shaped the modern world. The
experience highlights the importance of science in industry, engineering and everyday life.
Heysham Power Station Visit
The Heysham Power Station visit provides pupils with an insight into energy generation and the role of science and engineering in meeting society's energy needs. Pupils also gain valuable exposure to careers within the energy and engineering sectors.
Curious Critters Experience
Through hands-on interaction with a variety of animals, pupils develop their understanding of classification, adaptation and biodiversity. The experience promotes curiosity and supports curriculum learning in an engaging and memorable way.
Chester Zoo Educational Visit
Our visit to Chester Zoo allows year 11 pupils to explore biodiversity, adaptation, ecosystems and conservation in a real-world setting. Through direct observation of a wide variety of species, pupils deepen their understanding of ecology and environmental sustainability.
Scientist in the Spotlight
Throughout the curriculum, pupils learn about influential scientists and innovators from a diverse range of backgrounds. This initiative raises aspirations, highlights STEM career pathways and demonstrates the impact science has on society.
Themed Science Reward Lessons
Throughout the year, pupils participate in a range of themed science reward lessons linked to Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter and the Summer term. These sessions include experiments, STEM challenges, escape rooms, practical investigations and creative activities designed to reinforce scientific thinking whilst celebrating achievement and engagement.
Preparing Pupils for the Future
Our science enrichment programme supports pupils in becoming curious, knowledgeable and scientifically literate young people. Through a wide range of experiences, pupils gain a greater appreciation of the role of science in the world around them and develop aspirations for future STEM pathways and careers.
Science Ambassadors
Our Science Ambassadors play an active role in promoting science across the school. Ambassadors support departmental events, assist with British Science Week activities, help to encourage participation in enrichment opportunities and act as positive role models for younger pupils. Through this role, pupils develop leadership, communication and organisational skills whilst fostering a culture of curiosity and enthusiasm for science throughout the school community.
